Craft Beer Breweries Making a Mark-Reno to Sacramento

The Depot Brewery and Distillery

The Depot Brewery
The Depot Brewery and Distillery, Reno,NV Courtesy Lonely Planet.

The three story brick building which houses all of The Depot Craft Brewery & Distillery’s operations was built in 1910 to serve as the headquarters for the Nevada-California-Oregon Railway. Originating in Reno, the railway served many locals along the 238 mile stretch to Lakeview, OR. Unlike many of Nevada’s railway systems, the NCO catered primarily to ranchers & farmers with almost all of the cargo consisting of livestock, wool, hay, and grain. They produce 5 Flagship beers, plus 7 seasonal beers. The spirits produced are 6 of which 1 is a Gold Medal from the World Spirit Competition-2022. What makes this facility unique is a full service restaurant, and tap room at one location. Food is available in tap room. Contact: 757-737-4330

Food/Entertainment Options are Plentiful.

The Depot has facilities for banquets/meetings. The capability to offer full food service is what make this brewery unique, with choices for pub food and more upscale dining. Lunch/Dinner/Brunch/Happy Hour are all wrapped up in one location-and includes a Kids menu. Whether creating spirits, beer or food, they project a belief that with care and passion, their craft offerings can be greater than the sum of their simple parts. Local sourcing of ingredients for craft beer brewing and spirits  as well as menu items are done as much as possible.

Entertainment is not a focus. No music, no live entertainment, and no events oriented toward a holiday or festive ethnic event.

The beers are priced at a great sweet spot of $6.00- $8.00 per serving, depending on the style of beer.

THE SPACE

They do not offer entertainment oriented events in the Tap Room but have facilities for group and business events.

The menu covers the full range of casual and more formal dining and I would qualify it as up-scale casual dining. The Tap Room ambiance is mostly a venue that fits the budget for pub food.

What is most interesting about the space is the historic nature of the building. It does appear the owners spent significant money on bringing the facility up to code to make the space enjoyable and not an old west saloon. Tastefully casual.

The facility also houses the distillery and brewery. Yelp gives the Craft Brewery a 4 Star rating.
